Finally well-rested! Maybe that's because I fell asleep at 7pm yesterday and woke up at 7am this morning. There were a couple of wake-ups in between, but I just went back to sleep. ^^
Unfortunately, I decided to have a cup of nomu-yogurt (drinkable yogurt) this morning, and now my tummy doesn't love me. Damn lactose-intolerance! How is it possible to become MORE intolerant as you get older? I used to be able to handle a full glass of milk in the morning; these days, I'm lucky to get half a glass. And let's not talk about what a gamble ice cream is. ;__; SADNESS!

Date: 2008-10-08 06:10 pm (UTC)Bummer about the yogurt. If they have enough "active cultures" in it, yogurt is supposed to be safe to eat even for the lactose intolerant like us. The cultures basically replace the enzymes your body doesn't create and breaks down the lactose for you. (But I think there must be a minimum number of the beasties to get the job done)
Sadly, when it comes to dairy, high fat is your friend. Foods like butter have so much fat, there's less lactose in it, while skim milk is lactose city. But then, there is such thing as partial lactose intolerance (where your body produces fewer enzymes, but still makes them--the stomach can handle a single serving of dairy per day) and then there's total lactose intolerance where you're just screwed.
There's always LactAid and other products you can ingest with dairy. I find they don't cure the problem entirely, but they really help. If you just gotta eat ice cream or cheese anyway, pop one of those little pills. (I could hook you up if they don't sell the stuff in Japan)
